1856

In 1856 Romanticism and cultural Renaissance began to appear in Barcelona. The city took a great leap towards modernity, but what did that matter when at the same time Mr. Louis Moritz was already brewing his own beer between the Raval and the Eixample. That was a historic milestone.

1864

Barcelona in 1864 was already #TOP, as the millennials would say. It is no coincidence that it was on this date that the new Moritz brewery was opened in Ronda Sant Antoni. Yes, the same one where today you can eat a chicken sitting in one of our cans.

1897

The 19th century had been an amazing century and continued to be until the last moment. In 1897 the first Moritz beer shop was opened, the place where people went to catch up on the latest news, to let their hair down and, in short, to enjoy life. A wonderful tradition that we still respect.

1920

A couple of decades later, in 1920, our beloved Louis Moritz died at the ripe old age of 90. Not bad at all, eh? But that is not the end of his story; in fact, we are sure that at this precise moment his name is being pronounced in hundreds of bars in the city.

1966

Communication, commercials, advertising... everything that now sounds so familiar, was not so familiar in 1966, the year in which we launched our first advertising campaign under the slogan "Ep, Ep, Epidor". It might not seem such a big deal to you now, but remember that back then there was no Instagram, or virals, any of the things that are so popular today. What we did have was the Seat 600, our favourite car and one of the emblems of the brand that we still keep today.
In 1966 we dared to run our first advertising campaign: “Ep, Ep, Epidor”. Simple, but back then nothing was viral and there were no influencers. What we did have was the Seat 600, one of the emblems of the brand that we still keep today.

1978

In 1978 a new constitution was passed by referendum and Barcelona became the capital of the autonomous region of Catalonia. At that time the company had been dissolved and the Moritz family recovered the use of the brands to re-establish the company. A minor setback, yes, but what great story doesn't have one?

2004

2004

We missed the 1992 Olympics, the bell-bottoms, the leather jackets, punk, pop, and the start of electro-pop. We missed the 80's and 90's but, thank goodness, we came back stronger than ever in 2004. Okay, right, cars didn't fly, as some movies predicted, but the internet had come into existence and some people even had polyphonic mobiles.

2011

2011

In 2011 people wanted change; in fact, thousands of people took to the streets of the city in a peaceful protest for freedom and rights that was christened 15-M. And we also wanted change, so we decided to turn our Sant Antoni brewery upside down and leave it in the hands of the architect and designer Jean Nouvel to give it the look that it has today and that we know you are all familiar with. Don't deny it, we've seen you here having a beer more than once.

2016

The truth is that Barcelona never ceases to amaze, and if anything characterises this city it is its vitality and its ability to constantly renew itself. Speaking of renewal, in 2016 we decided to create the Moritz Beer Lab, our beer R&D&I and experimentation centre where we give free rein to all our ideas.

TODAY

TODAY

Today, we don't know if it's sunny, cloudy, cold or hot, because obviously we haven't written these words today, right now. But what we have done today is to open the doors of our brewery wide to continue doing what we love so much: to surprise, to make people smile, to offer experiences and, above all, to continue brewing Barcelona's first beer with the same enthusiasm as we did in 1856. It's just beautiful!
